Dance delivers…
and Plymouth Dance joins up the existing dots to celebrate the variety of dance in the city, creating and extending city-wide opportunities, using dance as a vehicle for change.

The south west region has adopted a networked approach to dance development, with an agency/initiative in each county/sub-region – each operating on a different model but working together as appropriate on shared objectives. This network is convened and led by Pavilion Dance South West.

Plymouth Dance was established in 2007, following on from a consultancy by Mary Schwarz and Sue Kay commissioned by Arts Council England, Plymouth City Council and Dance South West (2006). The first Director was Mary Brady, who created the strategic framework for the current post.

Plymouth has a vibrant dance ecology, encompassing Theatre Royal Plymouth, The Pavilions and TR2, the Barbican Theatre Plymouth, University of Plymouth, the Life Centre, as well as dance companies, schools and youth groups and an active range of artists and practitioners.
