Are you a dance school?

No, Plymouth Dance is a dance development organization operating as part of a local regional and national dance infrastructure. As part of our aim to connect, create and celebrate dance in the city we can signpost you to dance schools and teachers to suit your needs. You can find the complete directory HERE.

Are you a dance company?

No. However we are often commissioned to put together events that include performers from a range of youth dance and professional companies

Do you offer work experience, placements and volunteer opportunities?

Yes. Yes, we have regular volunteer programmes, internships and work experience opportunities, just get in touch, tell us about yourself and we will see what we can do!

Do you just work in Plymouth?

Yes, we only deliver projects in Plymouth. However, these include regional and national dance initiatives. All of the PD team are freelance and part time also working on other regional and national projects which means Plymouth Dance is connected to the dance sector in the UK.

How old do you have to be to dance?

In Plymouth you can dance from a baby in a sling; from cradle to grave! There are classes available for all age groups, dance styles and abilities just check out our directory HERE for more information .

Do well known choreorgaphers make work in Plymouth?

Absolutely! Plymouth has a range of excellent dance studios and rehearsal spaces that are regularly used by local, regional and national choreographers and Dance companies including Matthew Bourne and New Adventures, Rambert, Hofesh Shechter, Theo Clinkard, and James Wilton …other celebrity visitors to Plymouth include Wayne Sleep, Jonzi D, and dancers from Flawless and Diversity to name but a few.

Our organisation would like to work with Plymouth Dance to create a project, how much would it cost?

As a not-for-profit Social Enterprise we are not core funded. 80% of PD’s turnover is spent on project delivery costs with only 20% on operating costs. Each PD project is co designed to meet your requirement,s so you will receive a personalised quote for the cost of its delivery.

What is the point of Plymouth Dance?

To be the focal point for both local residents and visitors to the city with regard to all things dance!

Why are you a CIC and not a charity?

Because we are a social enterprise; we earn money that we then reinvest in dance projects and the dance community in the city.

Whats the biggest event you've taken part in?

Plymouth Dance was commissioned by Plymouth City Council to provide dance performances by local dance artists as part of The Olympic Torch relay show on The Hoe on the 19th of May 2012 to an audience of more than 55,000! The biggest participation event we have organised involved 7,000+ performing the same dance, on the same day, at the same time, to the same piece of music as part of Plymouth Dance Explosion funded by Dance4Life as part of Change4Life.
